Dear CCRL Community I have released a new version of Jacky Chess with some optimizations and bug fixes. In Self Play it is +178 Elos stronger than the Version 0.10.0. So in theory it should have a rating around ~2250. It has now also a relative stable multi threading mode using lazy SMP. However - i...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
Is there a way to reproduce your test constellation? Any logs in Arena? How many RAM do you have? Jacky does use around 3GB when using the tt cache. Java gets a bit unpredictable when it does not have enough memory or when it is always on the limit. In that case it could also happen that the GC run...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
Unfortunately Arena still dislikes your engine, java keeps remaining in memory, which leads to my computer to freeze after some time. I had to interrupt the tournament again. I regret to say that I have no problem with other java engines. Maybe my java version is not suitable (64-bit java 16.0.2). ...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
do you have the UCI protocol for these two errors? Jacky writes also a log file in the user directory (jackyChessXX.log). Can you attach those files? that would help me to find out the illegal move issue. Hi, I don't save the UCI debug. About your logs, I can't find the two games; I see only 40 log...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
I have now fixed the time issue (really a stupid error which produced a much too high value as soon as the spare time got < 1s which then let the engine calculate for nearly forever). So I hope that all sorts of time issues are now fixed with that new release. Hi Matthias, If that is the only chang...

I have now fixed the time issue (really a stupid error which produced a much too high value as soon as the spare time got < 1s which then let the engine calculate for nearly forever). Now it works properly! In 122 games only one time loss and one illegal move (see attached). Approximated 1'+1"...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
My computer became irresponsive when I started a new Arena instance. Process Explorer showed there were a lot of java instances running. It seems that Jacky does not exit properly.Maybe there is a relation between that and the time forfeits. Doesn't happen with cutechess. Alex The hanging java inst...

Seems my "strategy" to choose think time has mistakes... unfortunately I was not able to reproduce this in my turnaments... This just happened: 226965 >Test(0): position startpos moves d2d4 g8f6 c2c4 e7e6 g1f3 b7b6 a2a3 c8a6 d1c2 c7c5 d4d5 e6d5 c4d5 d7d6 b1c3 f8e7 e2e4 a6f1 h1f1 e8g8 c1f4...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
The time management should now work properly. Turnaments in Arena with 1'+1" or 2'+2" work fine now. Hi Matthias, thanx for the fast update. Indeed, Jacky Chess still loses about 25% of the games at this speed. It is also affected by the "promotion bug", not writing the promoted...

Re: New Engine: Jacky Chess
Please let me know any feedback. Hi Matthias, I tried to test it in my 1'+1" tournament, but it lost on time all the games. Do your time management routines work properly? This is first move debug, it allocated 15 seconds : 17410 >Test(0): go wtime 61000 btime 61000 winc 1000 binc 1000 17412 <...

New Engine: Jacky Chess
Hi, my name is Matthias, I have developed an open source UCI chess engine in Java. The goal is mainly as an educational project to learn my self about chess programming. Therefore the engine contains only features which I understand myself so far. The idea is also, that the code should be as simple...
