Re: New engine: Tcheran

Here is the trick: before running I just create a blank file with the log name (zappa.log for example), then modify permissions to make it read only, since the file name exists, the engine can't write to the file, but that permission shouldn't affect engine playing. Unless of course the engine cras...

Yes agreed.

It is CuteChess cli that you use ? I use CuteChess GUI myself, I like to look at the odd game here and there.

Re: CCRL Testing/Contributing

Nice hardware there. I stick to 5-men syzygy tablebases but some blitz testers use 6-men. Memory usage with 6-men can climb alarmingly at longer time controls as the O/S caches them. Unlikely to be an issue on the 5950X with 48GB RAM but could definitely be a problem on the other machine. 5-men defi...

Re: Stockfish derivative engines and registration problem

Andrew is not CCRL. How many times do we have to tell you that there is no registration process and not a single engine is registered with CCRL?? None, zilch.

There is no further point in continuing this discussion. For the first time in CCRL history, this thread will be locked.

Re: Batch file for auto tournament cutechess-cli

I'll take a look. Problem is, you can't see any of the games can you? I only watch maybe one in a hundred, not sure, but I find it very important to see some of the games to make sure the engine is working as expected. Cutechess GUI is very low overhead. I routinely use concurrency 12 on my Ryzen wi...

I think I have to wait forever! or never?
Given that in CCRL's 18+ year history no engine has ever been registered with CCRL, I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion.

Re: Stockfish derivative engines and registration problem

From my opinion, Lifish is better than ShashChess and should be registered for CCRL. It doesn't matter if you don't want to register my engine for personal reasons but know that there will not be a fair competition. There is no registration process. There are no engines "registered" with ...

Re: Stockfish derivative engines and registration problem

CCRL has a policy of letting authors register engines for fair competition upon request. I would like to make such a request on my behalf. I am NOT accusing CCRL of anything and in fact wish it well. However, while it is frustrating, there is no way to tell why my engine is not registered. I should...

I use 512MB for the Chess324 list at 2+1. Being a new list I could choose what I wanted.

Re: hash memory test

In CCRL all engines in a tournament or gauntlet compete under the same conditions, so a common hash size.

Some engines do use a little bit more than what is set.

Re: HCE engines

I'm not a fan of Banksia, it seems to be buggy. Basti is an expert on it.

If you get CuteChess cli working that is great - but do look at some of the games in the pgn to make sure that all seems well.

Re: HCE engines

In terms of GUIs, if you want to use concurrency, then I think you just have three choices - CuteChess cli or GUI, or Banksia.

Re: HCE engines

I'm not the best person to advise for books. I hardly ever run standard chess matches. You can use whatever GUI you want. It is personal preference. Use what you are comfortable with. Graham is the only one who uses ChessGUI. I used to but haven't for many years now. Arena is widely used, as is Ches...

Re: HCE engines

Yes "Rybka" is 1 thread only. But Deep Rybka does not have a UCI parameter for threads either. The parameter is "Max CPUs". Old engine as you say. But with cutechess cli you must surely be able to specify options for individual engines as well as options common for all. If you us...

Re: HCE engines

Is there a separate config file for each engine ? For example Rybka does not have a "threads" UCI parameter, it uses "Max CPUs". So passing a common parameter of "threads" to Rybka won't do anything. It will run one thread.

Re: HCE engines

Regarding the graphical interface and the command version, the benefits are a lower consumption of resources compared to cutechess. True enough but CuteChessGUI is the lightest of all the GUIs and it isn't really a factor - and you can see the games if you want to. I've run up to concurrency of 20 ...

You can find the version compiled for .NET7 framework below.

Thank you.
That opens and responds to the UCI command on my .NET7 machine here. The previous version didn't, as Graham found.
